Welcome to the polar one hundred. One hundred people, one hundred days. The goal is to get fit, or at least take it to the next level, with the help of a heart rate monitor.
Eric Harr/ Fitness Expert: "IF YOU WANT TO GET THE BEST BENEFIT FROM YOUR WORKOUT, YOU NEED TO STRETCH AFTER YOU'RE WARMED UP."
Professional triathlete and fitness expert Eric Harr says using a heart rate monitor is a great way to track your workout and make sure that you're on target with your fitness goals.
ERIC HARR, FITNESS EXPERT: "SO THIS THING IS LIKE A COACH ON YOUR WRIST SAYING SLOW DOWN OR SPEED UP. INTENSITY IS EVERYTHING. IF YOU'RE TRYING TO BURN FAT, THAT'S 55-65% OF YOUR ZONE. THOSE ZONES ARE KEY AND THAT IS WHY THESE HEART MONITORS ARE SO IMPORTANT."
He says it can help just about anyone at any level of fitness. Robert Stetson, training for the Humbolt marathon, has some clear goals.

Donna Burch and her daughter Stephanie are also planning ahead.
Stephanie Burch/ Getting Married in September: 'I'M GETTING MARRIED IN SEPTEMBER, SO IT'S KIND OF LIKE A MOTIVATION TO GET INTO THE DRESS I GUESS, AND HANG OUT WITH MOM."
And twins Gwyneth and Astrid Terry hope the heart rate monitors will help them stick with their New Year's resolution to get fit.
GWYNETH TERRY: "ASTRID'S MORE ATHLETIC THAN ME, THIS WAS TO GET ME GOING."
ASTRID TERRY: "WE'RE TRYING TO INSPIRE HER TO BECOME MORE FIT AND ATHLETIC. I'M SORT OF ALWAYS LOOKING FOR ADVENTURES AND THEN I DRAG HER ALONG."
I decided to join in and test the theory first hand.
According to the baseline testing, my body age is 40. That was nice to hear. But my potential, with the right program, is a body age of 33. I'll keep you posted.
