SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Driver License Division says it will open more offices on Fridays to combat long wait times resulting in part from the state's efforts to comply with a federal act.
The division already had announced plans to open its Draper office on Fridays. On Thursday the division said it will open two more offices in Salt Lake County on Fridays, starting by early to mid-March.
On Jan. 1 Utah started working to comply with the Real ID Act by issuing driver's licenses designed to prevent forgery -- requiring verification of birth certificates, Social Security numbers and immigration status. That's helped create waits lasting hours at some offices, leaving state residents frustrated.
The division also said Monday it also plans to implement a new online appointment system.
