SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Nearly 70 percent of respondents in a recent poll say they favor a ban on talking on cell phones while driving.

The Legislature is considering banning cell phones behind the wheel for anyone under the age of 18.The Salt Lake Tribune poll of 625 registered Utah voters found that 69 percent favored a ban, with 26 percent opposed and 5 percent unsure of their preference.
Last week state Sen. Ross Romero, a Salt Lake City Democrat, introduced a bill to ban cell phone use by drivers who are under 18. Rep. Phil Riesen, a Democrat from Holladay, is sponsoring a similar bill in the House.
Romero says limiting the proposed ban to teens was necessary because the Legislature hasn't taken interest in a total cell phone ban while driving.
The Tribune poll was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research from Jan. 18-20 and had a margin of error of 4 percent.
