UTAH COUNTY -- Winds ripped through Utah County Thursday night and left a trail of debris.
In Springville and Spanish Fork, powerful wind gusts knocked down fences and damaged rooftops.
The gusts plucked off shingles, then scattered them across backyards. The noise alone kept many residents up throughout the night.
Laura Ellis, a Springville resident, told KSL the storm was "horrendously loud. You could hear it just howling. It was rattling the windows, shaking the chimney, shaking the floor. When the chimney shook, it sounded like books tearing in half when the shingles would rip off the roof and slide down on the deck."
In Spanish Fork the wind ripped through buildings, tossing about pieces of metal and wood.
Residents say they're left to clean up the mess and make repairs.
