OREM (KSL News Services) -- Three suspected burglars are in jail this afternoon after an attempted break-in at the University Mall in Orem. The burglars attempted to enter the mall through the roof.

The burglars were spotted by mall security guards around three o’clock this morning as they peered into the mall through a skylight window.

Lt. Doug Edwards with the Orem Police Department says the three men were dressed in black clothes, had flashlights, knives, and two-way radios. He says the would-be thieves put a lot of thought and planning into their likely heist.

“The suspects ran across the roof, climbed down from the roof, ran south from the University Mall behind a strip mall across University Parkway and were apprehended there by the police officers,” he says.

Edwards says a security guard heard a noise on the roof, looked up and spotted three men dressed in black. He says it is unusual to try and see someone break in through the ceiling. The men were booked on trespassing and possession of burglary tools.
