(KSL News) -- A man accused of taking several hostages at a Heber City medical clinic pleaded guilty today to three counts of second degree kidnapping, saying he was mentally ill.

Royal Giles went to the Wasatch Medical Clinic in January to speak with a doctor who had treated his stepfather. When another patient was called in front of him, Giles pulled a gun and ordered the man to the floor.

Police eventually convinced Giles to surrender and no one was injured.

A judge will now decide whether Giles is indeed mentally ill.
