(Salt Lake City, KSL News) -- An apartment fire sent two people to the hospital this afternoon.

When firefighters arrived at the Escalante Apartments at 1060 North Redwood Road, the resident was still inside the burning unit.

He was taken to LDS Hospital with smoke inhalation. Heavy smoke spread to three other units in the building and a woman in an apartment just north of the fire was also taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.

Officials estimate damages at $10,000. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
