(Salt Lake City, KSL News) -- A 16-year-old Alta High School student is in critical condition after being hit by a car.
Sandy police officers say just after 7 a.m. the victim got out of her car and was crossing the street towards school when she was hit.
The car that hit her was being driven by a fellow student.
Officers say the 18-year-old driver says he just couldn't stop in time.
"It was dark when this happened. It looks like the roads were clear and dry. She was not in a crosswalk and there's not lighting on this street," says Sgt. Michelle Burnette with the Sandy Police Department.
The victim was flown to University of Utah Medical Center.
Officers haven't decided whether to file charges.
