(Reno-AP) -- The stepfather of a three-year-old boy found abandoned in a Salt Lake City store has been hospitalized in Reno.

His attorney, Marc Picker, says Lyle Montgomery is recovering from what appears to be a reaction to sleeping pills and alcohol.

Picker says his client did NOT attempt suicide, as far as he knows.

Montgomery is the man believed to have left the boy in the store. Police in Nevada and Utah continued searching today for the man's wife, who is the boy's mother. She has not been seen for two seeks.

Picker says police found Montgomery lying on the floor of his home when they arrived to question him last night.

As he put it, "He was not being lucid. He was very lethargic."

Picker says he was later taken to a hospital emergency room.

Police arrived to serve a search warrant in connection with the hunt for his wife, Jeannette Acord.
