(Salt Lake City, KSL News) -- Former U.S. Senator Frank Moss was laid to rest today.

Moss was known as "Ted" to his friends and collegues. He served three terms representing Utah in the U.S. Senate until he was defeated by Orrin Hatch in 1976.

He was Utah's most recent Democratic senator and is remembered for working tirelessly on environmental issues and the creation of Capitol Reef and Canyonlands National Parks.

Moss, who died in his sleep Wednesday morning, was 91 years old.
