(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Laurie Brown Larsen of Sandy has admitted that when she fell behind on her house note and realized she owed more than the home was worth -- she tried to burn the place down to collect insurance money.

Her former husband was a fire department arson investigator, so she figured she knew what she needed to do to get away with it.

But the Sandy fire investigators quickly realized her story didn't add up, and prosecutors charged her with arson for the 2001 incident.

Larsen pleaded guilty to reduced charges yesterday for attempted arson and filing a false insurance claim.
