PEOA, Utah (AP) -- A woman say her husband shot and killed a cougar after it attacked the family dog.
Elain Jorgenson says she found her 11-year-old Yorkshire Terrier mauled to death Monday outside her rural Peoa home northeast of Park City. She says the cougar was a few feet away and hissing at her.
Jorgensen says she ran inside her house and told her husband to shoot the animal.
Casey McVay, a Division of Wildlife Resources Officer, says the cougar was a young cat who was likely experiencing its first winter on its own and looking for a meal.
