Press ReleaseCOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior Jimmer Fredette has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through December 27. This is the second weekly accolade of the season for Fredette and the fourth of his career overall.
A 6-2 guard from Glen Falls, N.Y., Fredette was named the HoopsTV Las Vegas Classic Most Valuable Player after leading the Cougars to the tournament championship with wins over Nevada (110-104) and Nebraska (88-66). Against Nevada, Fredette scored a career-high 33 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field, including 2-of-5 from beyond the arc and 9-of-9 from the free throw line. He added six assists and three steals vs. the Wolfpack. Against Nebraska, Fredette collected 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. He also tallied four assists, one blocked shot and one steal. For the week, Fredette averaged 28.5 points, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 19-for-28 (67.9 percent) from the field and 17-for-18 (94.4 percent) from the charity stripe.
