SALT LAKE CITY -- We've all heard about boot camps for weight loss and military training, but what about for babysitting?

"I have four other siblings, and my mom wanted me to learn how to babysit them," said 11-year-old Alyssa Green.

The American Red Cross is offering a boot camp designed for 11- to 15-year-olds who want to be responsible babysitters.

The participants learn everything from age-appropriate activities, potential hazards for babies, even first aid and CPR.

"If a babysitter knows what are some of the hazards to watch for, how to properly watch children and keep them safe, you can avoid disasters from happening and emergencies from happening, in the first place," said Susan Thomas, spokeswoman for the Greater Salt Lake Area chapter of the American Red Cross.

To find out how you can send your kids to babysitting boot camp, give the Red Cross a call at 801-323-7000 or CLICK HERE for a list of locations where the classes are offered.
