SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Transit Authority board of trustees has adopted a two-year contract for about 1,300 of its employees.

The board took the action Monday even though the employees' union voted overwhelmingly against it.

The trustees say part of the Utah Public Transit District Act allows them to enact the terms of a contract even if the union doesn't accept it.

The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 382 has about 750 dues-paying members.

The contract means bus and train drivers and maintenance and parts employees will not get a pay raise in 2010. In 2011, the employees could get a 1 percent pay raise on July 1 and an additional 1 percent on Dec. 1, depending on sales tax revenues and fuel prices.

UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter says the agency isn't asking the union for anything it's not asking of other employees.
