(KSL TV) Looks like Home Depot will build a new facility in the Mill Creek area.
The Salt Lake County Council voted 7 to 2 last night to change the zoning on land southwest of Highland Drive and 33rd South.
Home Depot already owns much of the 11 acre parcel of land but was seeking a zone change from residential to commercial.
A group of Mill Creek residents has fought the zoning change, saying that a big retailer will cause problems in the area.
But Home Depot and its supporters sucessfully persuaded the council that the store would benefit the community and designers would work to mitigate any neighbohood concerns.
The store is expected to be finished in a year.
