(KSL News) -- The Utah Highway Patrol is changing the way it does businesses on the roads, putting more stock in motorcycles.

You'll see the bikes in fewer parades, and instead, combing Utah's highways spotting speeders.

The UHP says an increase in aggressive drivers prompted them to shift more motorcycles onto the roads, full-time .. and add more officers.

They'll also expand beyond Salt Lake County borders, for the first time, riding in Utah, Davis and Weber Counties.

Lt. Steve Myer, Utah Highway Patrol: "THE POLICE BIKE IS A LOT EASIER TO GET INTO TRAFFIC, GET INTO HIGH VOLUME AREAS, WHERE WE'RE HAVING PROBLEMS AND BE ABLE TO WEED OUT THE AGGRESSIVE DRIVER, WHICH IS NOT GOING TO BE TOLERATED, AS WELL AS THE IMPAIRED DRIVER AND TAKE ENFORCEMENT ACTION ON THOSE PEOPLE."

Training begins today for new motor officers. And the Lieutenant over the program says expect to see them on the roads, year-round, even on rainy days.
