(Salt Lake City-AP) -- A Magna woman who killed her husband in a domestic dispute -- and then pleaded guilty against her attorney's advice -- will spend a year in jail.

Pamela Morgado shot and killed her husband, Joseph, last April.

Defense attorney Edwin Wall says he urged his client not to plead guilty, because he thought she had a strong claim of self-defense. But Wall says Morgado wanted to take responsibility for her actions.

Judge Paul Maughan sentenced her to a year in jail, plus 36 months' probation.

According to court testimony, the couple had recently decided to split up. An argument apparently turned violent, and Pamela shot Joseph Morgado.
