SALT LAKE CITY -- Police released the name of the man killed Friday night when he was hit by a TRAX train at 400 South and Main Street.

The man was identified as 50-year-old Joe Esquibel, a transient.

Utah Transit Authority officials say he was a riding in between two cars on a TRAX train. As his train was passing another train, which was going in the opposite direction, he either attempted to jump or fell.

The train the man was riding on ran over his leg, severing it. He was then hit by the passing train.

The man was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition, where he later died.
