Karen Scullin Reporting...Mayor Rocky Anderson says the Cambridge Cove Apartment Complex was a mecca for drug deals, robberies, and about one year ago -- a homicide.

You may remember this apartment complex used to be the Kingswood Apartments, known to many for crime and the high profile murder of a young woman who was kidnapped and murdered.

Over the last year new management has taken over. Lousy tenants have been kicked out, renovations were made, and new guidelines were put in place.

Good tenants who have lived in the apartments before and after the changes they finally feel safe. More importantly they feel their children are safe.

Shelly Safir/Tenant: “IT'S WONDERFUL, IF MY SON MANAGES TO ESCAPES I ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE I COULD FIND HIM AND HE WOULDN'T BE REALLY HURT."

Reverend France Davis/Community Leader: “AS FAR AS ROSE PARK AND THE WEST SIDE OF SALT LAKE ARE CONCERNED, THESE ARE PEOPLE THAT HAVE WORTH AND VALUE AS MUCH AS ANY PLACE ELSE. AND IT'S SENDS THE MESSAGE TO THEM THAT WE ARE WILLING TO TAKE THE STEPS TO INVEST IN THIS PART OF TOWN."

"Mayor Rocky Anderson/Salt Lake City: THIS WENT FROM A VERY BAD PLACE IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD TO A MODEL RESIDENTIAL AREA."

The newly renamed Cambridge Cove Apartments are being called a model for other complexes that need to be turned around.

Clearly city leaders and the housing authority believe this is a success story. Even nearby neighbors have called to say they now feel safe to let their kids play outside.
