(KSL News) The accused kidnapper of Elizabeth Smart may have had another target.

Brian David Mitchell allegedly asked another woman to be his second wife, more than a year before Elizabeth Smart was taken from her bedroom.

According to KSL Radio, in March of 2001 Mitchell met a young woman named Julie who worked at Crossroads mall and would talk with him about religion while he panhandled outside.

When Mitchell learned the woman was a member of the Kingston polygamous clan, Mitchell reportedly wrote her a letter proposing she join him and his wife, Wanda Barzee.

Julie refused.

Her family says that when they learned Mitchell was the man accused of kidnapping Smart they were shocked and concerned that Julie could have been in the same situation.
