(KSL News) -- A pilot from Hill Air Force Base's 388th Fighter Wing is safe today after his jet crashed in Iraq.

The F-16 fighter-bomber crashed southwest of Baghdad yesterday, as Operation Peninsula Strike, the biggest American military assault since the war, entered it's third day.

The pilot, whose name has not been released, was able to safely eject from the aircraft and was rescued within an hour.

He was then taken to Baghdad International Airport where he was examined and released in good condition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
