Sandra Yi reporting"IT'S A GOOD CATCH TO GET THIS GENTLEMAN OFF THE STREETS."

The search for a carjacking suspect is over tonight. Police say, they have their man.

West Valley police arrested the suspect around 7p.m. Friday night at a Harmons grocery store.

An intense, multi agency manhunt in West Valley City todayspanned 3 to 4 blocks.

Dogs sniffed for clues while police went door to door with their guns drawn. The search which lasted more than 4 hours, turned up nothing.

The search began this morning after the suspect led a highway patrol trooper on a short, but wild chase. The trooper had tried to pull the driver over on a traffic stop.

This dash cam video shows the suspect lose control...

Trooper: "10-50, 10-50. HE HIT A POWER LINE."

..,then slam into a power pole.

Jeff Dunn/Utah Highway Patrol: "WHEN THE VEHICLE HIT THE POWER LINE, IT MADE SEVERAL SMALL EXPLOSIONS THEN ONE LARGE ONE. AT LEAST ONE OR TWO LARGE EXPLOSIONS WITH QUITE A FEW POPPING NOISES."

The suspect took off and ran to a nearby home.

Pat Workman/Carjacking Victim: "HE MUST HAVE JUST HOPPED OVER THE FENCE THERE."

Pat Workman was in her van loading her 4 day care kids in their seats when the suspect pounded on the passenger side window.

Pat Workman/Carjacking Victim: "I SAID, 'WHAT DO YOU WANT?' HE SAYS, 'TAKE ME.' I SAYS, NO', BUT HE OPENED UP THE SLIDING DOOR TO THE VAN AND GOT IN AND I SAYS, 'LET ME TAKE THE KIDS,' AND HE SAYS, 'OK. GET THE KIDS OUT.'"

The man helped her unbuckle the kids - then took off in her van. Workman's son heard her screams and followed the suspect onto S-R 201. At times - their speeds reached 105 miles and hour - on the freeway.

Darren Workman/Chased Suspect: "IT WAS REALLY BUSY. WE WERE REALLY MOSTLY ON THE SHOULDER GOING, PASSING CARS."

Darren Workman/Chased Suspect: "I JUST DIDN'T WANT HIM TO GET AWAY, CAUSE HE HURT MY MOM."

Again - police have arrested the suspect.
