Sam Penrod ReportingA police chase in Utah County tonight ended in a three car crash and police say the suspect was high on drugs.

Police say the suspect was seen acting suspicious at an apartment complex near Thanksgiving point. As officers were going to the area to check it out, they spotted the car and tried to pull the man over.

At that point, the short chase started and the suspect kept going for about a half mile at what police say was 35 miles per hour. He then drove right through a red stop light at about 8 o’clock and hit two other cars trying to go through the intersection.

Kevin Scott: "He wasn't going really fast, but he must have decided to go for it. He ran right through the red light; he seemed drunk or like he was on something."

Sgt. Jeff Swenson, Lehi Police Dept.: "He was quite incoherent; [we] believe he was on methamphetamines."

Police are identifying the suspect as 28-year old, Vu Nyugen from West Valley City. He was taken to the hospital to be examined, but police plan to have him booked into jail later tonight on drug possession and evading charges.

Police say it was fortunate no one was seriously hurt tonight because the suspect appeared to be under the heavy influence of drugs.
