KSL News ReportingA family of four is in the hospital after a major accident that shut down I-80 near SaltAir for over an hour.

Highway Patrol Troopers say a father and his seven-year old daughter were very seriously hurt and taken by medical helicopter to the hospital. The mother and a baby were taken by ambulance.

It happened about three o'clock this afternoon. Investigators believe the family's S.U.V. was changing lanes when it clipped a truck forcing the driver to lose control. The vehicle ended up in a ditch.

The truck driver watched the accident unfold in his rearview mirror.

Jeff Ackley/Truck Driver: "It looked like he wanted to come in behind me and then he come back out and then he swerved back out and then swerved real quickly into the corner bed of my truck."

All members of the family were wearing their seatbelts. No one in the truck was injured.
