(Salt Lake City-AP) -- A 14-year old boy is in critical condition at the University of Utah Medical Center after being shot in the torso.
Police are investigating Thursday's shooting as an accident.
The boy was shot while he was hunting doves with two other boys near West Mountain, west of Utah Lake.
Police say a single shot was fired when the boys were trying to cross a canal.
Deputies and ambulance personnel responded to the scene.
The boy was taken to a Payson hospital then flown to the University's hospital to be treated.
There are no plans to file criminal charges.
Police continue to investigate.
