(Layton-AP) -- All lanes of Interstate-15 are back open after a fatal accident shut down the highway early this morning.

Collision Kills One, Slows Commute

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper says the driver of a Dodge Intrepid was traveling southbound on I-15 in Layton when he fell asleep at the wheel.

The car veered across the median and hit a semi-tractor's trailer traveling in the northbound lane.

The car's driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity has not yet been released.

Troopers say the car had out of state tags but the driver may have just moved to West Valley City.

The semi's driver was not hurt.

Collision Kills One, Slows Commute

The impact of the crash threw the car's engine across the southbound lanes of I-15 and another car driving southbound hit the engine.

That driver was not hurt.
