HURRICANE, Utah (AP) -- A 54-year-old inmate was found dead in a medical isolation cell at Purgatory Correctional Facility, Washington County sheriff's officers said.

Raymond Boyett, Toquerville, was found dead at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, about two hours after the staff had last checked on him, Sheriff Kirk Smith said.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Boyett had been held without bail since Aug. 27, and was awaiting trial on a third-degree felony charge of drunken driving.

Smith said Boyett was alone in the medical isolation cell and was placed there Friday after he slipped and fell, suffering a bump on his head.

The Hurricane Police Department is handling the investigation into the death.
