OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Autoliv has confirmed it is moving its Ogden air bag inflator manufacturing operation to Brigham City.

Employees were told Friday of the consolidation that could begin as early as November.

"Autoliv will offer assembly associates the opportunity to move into the same position in Brigham City," Autoliv spokeswoman Kathy Whitehead said. "We don't expect layoffs for associates involved with the assembly process."

However, the change will result in layoffs for some employees with administrative roles, as those functions will be centered in Brigham City.

Whitehead said the company "expects the consolidation to affect less than 100 people."

Currently, Autoliv has two air bag inflator manufacturing facilities within 30 miles of one another -- Ogden and Brigham City. The plant in Brigham City has the capacity to handle the load of both plants, and it was chosen over Ogden because it is the larger of the two plants. Assembly lines will move over the next six to nine months.

Autoliv will still have two plants in Ogden: the Airbag Module Facility and the Engineering and Technical Operations Facility.

Autoliv has six plants in Utah and employs almost 5,000 people in the state.
