(KSL News) --University of Utah President Bernie Machen is leaving that job for a new one.
The University of Florida selected Machen to become its next president, replacing retiring President Charles Young.
Machen has been the president of the U for six years.
Bernie Machen: "We're a little bit sad because we're leaving a great university and a wonderful group of people in Utah, but it's time to move on and I think we're doing the right thing."
The University of Utah is expected to quickly begin a national search for a new president. But, the school says, Machen will be hard to replace.
Cecelia Foxley, Commissioner of Higher Education: "It's a loss. He's made a real mark when he was here, and we'll find another very fine president, very fine leader to continue that upper thrust."
Until then the university will appoint an interim president.
