(KSL News) Should Nordstrom stay or go?

Residents of Salt Lake speak out for the final time before the City Council votes on a possible move to Gateway for the major retailer.

At the public hearing last night the council heard from some of those directly affected by the move -- the employees of Nordstrom.

If the store is not allowed to take up residence at the Gateway -- many of them will be out of a job.

Maureen Andrews/Nordstrom Employee: "WE HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO OFFER YOU, IF WE WERE ALLOWED THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO GATEWAY, I PROMISE YOU, WE'D MAKE YOU PROUD."

Still others at the hearing said that by changing zoing rules to allow the move -- and developers for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints say retail space in it's new downtown developement may be scrapped -- if Nordstrom moves.

Allen Sullivan/LDS Church Affiliated Real Estate: "THE RULES SHOULD NOT BE CHANGED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME TO THE DISADVANTAGE TO ALL OF THOSE WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM THE CHURCH'S INVESTMENT."

The city council will vote on the move next week.
