OGDEN -- The Big Sky Conference selected their final football Players of the Week for the 2009 season and on the list is Weber State linebacker Nick Webb. Webb was named the Defensive Player of the Week. This is the first time in Webb's two year career at Weber State that he has been honored.
Webb had a huge game in the must win against Cal Poly. He recorded nine tackles, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble in the ‘Cats 47-14 blowout victory. For the season, Webb has recorded 32 total tackles; 19 solo, 13 assisted, in nine games this season.
Joining Webb as Players of the Week are Northern Arizona quarterback Michael Herrick and Eastern Washington quarterback Matt Nichols, who share the Offensive Player of the Week honors, and Montana punt returner Marc Mariani was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Herrick tied a Big Sky single-game record with 47 completions in 65 attempts, throwing for 574 yards and four touchdowns in Northern Arizona's 49-45 loss to Eastern Washington. This is Herrick's second Player of the Week honor this season.
Nichols completed 22 of 33 passes for 408 yards and five touchdowns in the Eagles' 49-45 win over the Lumberjacks. Nichols connected with receiver Ed Berry on a 60 yard bomb with 3:30 left to play, which proved to be the game winning score.
Mariani returned three punts for 120 yards and also caught two touchdowns as the Grizzlies beat Montana State to secure the number one seed in the playoffs and finish off the regular season at 11-0.
At the beginning of November, the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All District Eight Team was released and Weber State safety Beau Hadley repeated as a First Team Member. Hadley earned All District Eight honors last season and went on to earn First Team national honors as well. He is also a three-time member of the Big Sky football All-Academic Team.
Out of the 192 players named to the First Team in NCAA Division 1, Hadley was one of only 17 players to achieve a perfect 4.00 GPA. Over his 41 game career at Weber State, Beau has forced eight fumbles, making him one behind WSU's career leader Brady Fosmark.
