BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) -- A confessed killer will spend five years to life in prison for first-degree murder.
Jared Mendoza, 21, was sentenced Monday for last year's murder of Timothy Lords of Pocatello, Idaho, in Utah's Box Elder County.
Another man charged in the slaying, Jerime Anderson, has been convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. He faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced next month.
Mendoza earlier testified that he killed the 19-year-old Pocatello man at Anderson's request. Anderson was acquitted of a murder charge but found guilty on the conspiracy count.
Prosecutors said Anderson and Mendoza plotted to kill Lords because they believed he had told police about a friend's drug dealing.
Police said the shooting occurred in September 2002 in a borrowed car as the three were returning to Pocatello from Ogden, where the three allegedly had picked up a half-ounce of methamphetamine.
