SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Utah prison inmate on a work crew that was clearing trees near Venice became ill and died, Corrections officials said.

Michael Wagenman, 41, of Orem, who had been housed at the Sevier County Jail, became short of breath Monday and collapsed after being put in a van to rest, sheriff's Capt. Gary Reed said.

CPR was administered until paramedics arrived, but Wagenman was pronounced dead at a Richfield hospital, Corrections spokesman Jack Ford said.

He said Wagenman was sent to prison on burglary and theft convictions, and had an August parole date.
