SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has selected Keith Kelly to serve as a judge in the 3rd Judicial District.

Kelly would fill the vacancy left by Judge Sheila McCleve, who retired in July.

Kelly has practiced law at Ray Quinney & Nebeker since 1986.

He has served as a member of the Utah Supreme Court's advisory committee on the rules of evidence and as chairman of an oversight committee with the Utah Judicial Council.

A BYU graduate, Kelly has a law degree from Stanford, where he was editor of the Stanford Law Review.

His appointment to the bench is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
