(KSL News) The trial of a man accused of killing a 15- year old Cache County girl nearly four years ago continues this morning.

Cody Nielsen is charged with first degree murder in the death of Trisha Autry in June 2000.

During opening statements yesterday prosecutors said Nielsen kidnapped and killed Autry then dismembered and burned her body and buried her remains near a research- lab where he used to work.

Prosecutors call it the most horrendous crime a person could commit.

Scott Wyatt/ Cache County Special Prosecutor: "To abuse, destroy and molest a child and then try to obliterate her, destroy her identity, completely wipe her off the face of the earth."

The defense will likely deliver its opening statements later this week.

If convicted Nielsen could face the death penalty.
