CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Carolina Panthers left tackle Jordan Gross is recovering after undergoing surgery on his broken right ankle Sunday night.
A team official said the surgery went well. The Panthers are expected to place him on injured reserve later Monday.
The anchor of Carolina's offensive line and the team's best pass protector was injured when an Atlanta player rolled into his leg late in the second quarter of the Panthers' 28-19 win Sunday.
The Panthers moved Travelle Wharton to left tackle and inserted inexperienced Mackenzy Bernadeau in Wharton's old spot at left guard. The Panthers could sign another offensive lineman to add depth before Thursday's game against Miami.
Gross has only missed one start in his career.
