Kimberly Houk ReportingA teenager accused of brutally killing his best friend is expected to plead guilty. He was convicted four years ago, but that ruling was later overturned.
The Ray family says they want to know why-- why someone they took into their family could allegedly turn so violent.
Police say 15-year old Brookes Shumway went into a fit of rage and stabbed 14-year old Chris Ray 39 times while he was sleeping over at his house. The victim was asleep at the time.
Debbie Ray, Victim's mother: “I could never forgive him, ever. And maybe one day when it’s my turn to be judged, I might be judged for that.”
It was reported that the boys may have been fighting over a video game. A jury convicted Shumway after seeing evidence of a bloody couch and the butcher knife used in the killing, images the victim's mother says she'll never forget.
Because of a judge's mistake, the conviction was overturned. It's now four years later and the family is looking for a way to keep this from happening again.
