(Ogden-AP) -- A robbery suspect shot dead during a gunfight with police earlier this month died from his own bullet.

The Weber County Attorney's office says Robert Apodaca took his own life with a single shot to his right temple January fourth.

Apodaca opened fire on two officers who were searching for him after a robbery. He shot one officer in the thigh, and the officers returned fire. Autopsy results show Apodaca was shot in the left shoulder, then took his own life.

The officers were cleared in the shooting. Apodaca had an extensive criminal history including an aggravated robbery conviction and charges ranging from aggravated kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a restricted person to cruelty to animals.
