(KSL News) A two alarm fire caused several thousand dollars in damage to a Salt Lake City home.

The blaze broke out sometime after 4:00 this morning at 2139 E. 1700 South. The cold and snow forced fire crews to call the second alarm.

Dennis McKone/ Salt Lake City Fire Dept.: "The heavy snowpack insulated the roof for a long time, so that got the fire being able to cook good."

The fire was confined to the attic and caused the roof to collapse.

Both people inside escaped unharmed. Damage estimates are around 200 thousand dollars. Fire investigators are still pinning down where the fire started and what caused it.
