Wow!!! The Dixie defense comes up with a big play and we have a ball game. Dallen Reber picks up a Springville fumble and returns it to the Red Devils 5 yard line with 3 minutes left. On 2nd down Mike Sharp throws a pass to Dalton Smith for a touchdown. The extra point is good the Flyers are a touchdown and 2 point conversion away from tying this game.

The Flyers have recovered a fumble on the Springville 13 yard line. John Matuauto scores on a 6 yard touchdown run to cut the Red Devil lead to 15 points. The Flyers opt to kick it deep instead of going with the onside kick. We'll see if their defense can make this game interesting.

A big apology to Dixie fans. I refered to Dixie as the "Rebels" instead of the Flyers in a couple blog posts. That was very embarrassing. Old habits are hard to break. We fixed the error in the previous posts. I'm just glad I didn't call them the Red Storm.

Springville is just 24 minutes away from their first state championship game appearance since 1985. 24 years ago Scott Mitchell led the Red Devils to their first and only football state championship. Now he will have a chance to lead his team to a 2nd state championship, this time as head coach. The Red Devils defense has been impressive. They have held Dixie to just 51 yards of total offense. The Flyers have not played well and it will be interesting to see how they respond in the 2nd half.

Dixie is forced to punt yet again but a nice booming punt has Springville backed up to their own 21 yard line. A sack by Phillip Cooper backs them up even further and that is how the half ends.

Another big mistake by Dixie. Quarterback Mike Sharp fumbled the snap and Springville has recovered at their own 36 yard line. Springville's defense gives up just 12 points a game so a score here would make a comeback by the Flyers very difficult.

Springville gets a big gain on their first offensive play. A halfback pass ends up in the hands of a wide open Jordan Sumsion for a 53 yard gain. Red Devils now have a 1st and 10 at the Dixie 26 yard line.

Here we go at Rice-Eccles stadium for our 2nd game of the day. This is a rematch from a game played in week 1. Springville won the game 21-14. It was Dixie who ended the Red Devils season last year with a 40-36 win. This should be a good one. We will have highlights posted 1 hour after the conclusion of the game and I will have a live wrap-up of this game on the KSL 5 news at 6.
