(KSL News) A malfunctioning furnace sent carbon monoxide flowing into a West Valley City home overnight, and made several of its residents sick.
Fire crews were originally called to the home at 4335 W. Cortney Drive thinking it was a gas leak.
When they went inside they found high levels of carbon monoxide.
One of the residents was unconscious, and three others complained of feeling sick. All were taken to the hospital.
Battalion Chief Stan Varney/ West Valley City Fire Dept.: "The readings were high enough it was pretty serious. They'd been here all night. A carbon monoxide problem is something that takes time to have serious effects."
Fire crews opened up the windows to air out the house.
They say everyone should have a carbon monoxide detector so you'll know if there's a problem in your home.
