(Wales-AP) -- A 35-year-old Sandy man is dead after he fell while ice climbing in Sanpete County over the weekend.

Sanpete County Sheriff's officers say Robert Moore of Sandy was climbing ice walls with a friend yesterday in Maple Canyon near Wales when the ice he was attached to broke off.

Ice Climbing Accident Claims Life of Sandy Man

Officers say Moore fell about 100 feet and was killed.

Close friends of Moore say he had been climbing for 14 years.

Moore leaves behind his wife, Mandi, and three children, including a 3-week old girl.

Wales is just over 100 miles south of Salt Lake City.
