Ogden, Utah (AP) -- More than 20 firefighters battled a major apartment fire in a multi-unit building Monday, but no residents were injured in the blaze.
The fire in the 24-unit building started about 4:30 p.m., said Ogden City Fire Marshall Matt Shwenk.
By early evening, a huge cloud of grey smoke hung above the building, as flames erupted from windows and the roof.
Eighteen of the apartment units had been occupied, and the Red Cross was on its way to the site to help the evacuated, Schwenk said.
"We're working to save as much of the building as we can," he said.
About 22 firefighters from Ogden and the city of Roy were battling the blaze, with three engines, two ladder trucks, rescue and ambulence crews, Schwenk said.
Fire officials had not yet determined how the fire started, and made no damage estimates.
