News releaseSALT LAKE CITY -- Offensive tackle Zane Beadles has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first-team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
As a first-team selection, Beadles will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
Beadles, who was also a first-team All-District pick last season, is a four-year starter for the Utes. He has made the all-Mountain West Conference team twice—earning first-team honors in 2008. Beadles is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior Class Award. He has "won" 436 of his 500 total plays this year for a team-best 87% overall grade. He has 14 cuts and eight pancake blocks.
The senior mechanical engineering major holds a 3.535 grade point average and is scheduled to graduate in December. He regularly participates in community service events and is a member of Utah's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Beadles also writes a weekly blog for the Sporting News, in which he shares his experiences as a Division I football player.
Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
