Jill Atwood ReportingAnother gang shooting, another clean getaway for the people behind it. Tonight police are fearing retaliation. This latest attack happened right on the victim's front porch.

Tonight an 18-year old man is dead, his friend fighting to stay alive in a local hospital. Police really need the public's help on this one; all they'll say is the two victims are known gang members, but at this point they have no idea who is behind this.

It is a neighborhood full of young children; across the street, just steps from where the shooting happened is a school. And as it turns out the victims are really just kids themselves.

18-year old Carlos Ortiz was gunned down in front of his own house with his family inside. His friend had also been hit, but is expected to be okay.

Witnesses told police they heard at least four shots, detectives believe someone laid in wait and then opened fire.

Det. Dwayne Baird, Salt Lake City Police Dept: “It was not a drive-by shooting. No cars were seen in the neighborhood or anyone leaving the neighborhood.”

At this point homicide detectives are looking for anything that will lead them in the right direction. Detectives are also hoping for more leads in another gang-related shooting earlier this week.

In that one someone drove by and fired shots at a teenager on a bike. Yesterday police discovered the car involved, but still have no suspect in custody. And that has detectives worried. In situations like this they know there is always someone waiting to get even.

Det. Dwayne Baird: "That's a big concern in a case like this, that someone will retaliate. We hope that doesn't happen. Of course, this a very sad situation for this family and the individuals involved."

Again no suspects in this case. If you have any information on this case give the Salt Lake City Police Department a call right away.
