(Logan-AP) -- Utah State athletic director Rance Pugmire has resigned.

Utah State president Kermit Hall says Pugmire decided resigning would be the best thing for himself and for the school. Pugmire has been on administrative leave since February for a drunken driving arrest. He handed in his resignation yesterday.

The school will start looking for a replacement, and Hall says he hopes that decision will be made by summer.

In the meantime, Fred Hunsaker, the interim A-D, will run the athletic department.

Pugmire did not return a phone call seeking comment today.

He was arrested after rolling his S-U-V on Interstate 15 on his way to Logan from Salt Lake City. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for April 7th.
