(Centerville-AP) -- An elderly woman was rescued from her burning home and she has Centerville police officers to thank for it.

The fire started just before six a-m yesterday morning. Responding officers Adam Hunt and Benjamin Lee found an 86-year-old woman inside the smoke-filled home.

Centerville police say when they arrived, the woman appeared to be confused. The two officers removed her from the home and called the fire department who put the fire out.

The home had some smoke damage and a gas oven was destroyed. Fire investigators believe the gas oven had been left on and was the cause of the fire.

The woman was treated for smoke inhalation but was otherwise not injured.

She's staying with family members.
