(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Salt Lake City fire investigators say the cause of the house fire that killed a two-year-old was the result of the two children playing with a lighter.

Investigators say two-year-old Nicole Curran and her three-year-old brother were in the basement of the home and used the lighter to ignite some laundry on fire.

Investigators are not sure which child actually lit the laundry on fire, but it eventually spread throughout the house.

The little girl died of smoke inhalation. Her brother and mother escaped the fire.

The girl's mother was in extreme emotional distress and was taken to LDS hospital for observation.

The fire caused about 120-thousand dollars in damage to the home.
