(KLS News) The thousands of people downtown today also proved hazardous along the Abravanel Hall TRAX line.

A TRAX train hit a pedestrian around 1:30 this afternoon, sending him to the hospital with minor injuries.

Witnesses say the man was apparently walking in the middle of the street, then ran in front of the train like he was trying to catch it.

Justin Jones/ Utah Transit Authority: "We've had a lot of people downtown today. A lot of new people, and it's important that people follow the signals. It's a partnership between the trains and the cars and the people. We've had a lot of people ignoring the signals today. This is a good reminder for people to follow the signals to be safe around the train."

UTA officials say the train was travelling at a low speed when the accident happened. The cause is under investigation. Train service was stopped for about 20 minutes.
